Academy Leadership

Marc Benson

Academy Director

As a second-generation electrician, Marc started his electrical experience at Universal Electrical Services where he worked with his father during summers while still in High School. Upon graduation, Marc made the decision to attend Kutztown University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education in 2006. Ultimately, Marc chose to re-enter the trade and started his apprenticeship while working as an industrial electrician with Universal Electrical Services. In 2017, Marc was approached by Glenn Eglinton to create a 4-year apprenticeship program to train UES apprentices. A year later, UES was approached by other outside contractors about training their apprentices, and Universal Academy was born. Marc’s vision for the academy is to provide a dynamic hands-on approach to teaching, while also focusing on reinforcing knowledge gained through practical instruction. Marc describes himself as a faith-based person whose greatest passion, outside of his family, is mentoring and instilling confidence and self-belief in others. When not at work, you will find Marc spending time with his beautiful wife Kayla and their three amazing kids: Declan, Hope, and Allie.

Academy Staff

Andrew Irvin

Electrical Instructor

Andrew has over 34 years experience working in the field. He is just as comfortable working with the tools, managing a large project or teaching in a classroom. He started his training in open shops and western center. After getting organized with a shop he went through the ibew 380 journeyman in training program and spent 12 years working there as a Journeyman wireman and foreman. He decided to leave the union to do his own work and had a lot of success moving into wireless networking. Andrew has a very large skillset that is valuable when it comes to instructing. He also has a lot of experience and knowledge to share with the younger guys. His heart is in all that he does here and his goal is to put everyone that comes to UA on a clear path to success. Last but not least, Andrew tries to please the Lord in all that he does

Dustin Mackereth

Electrical Instructor

Dustin Mackereth is a new instructor with twenty years of electrical experience, mainly in running commercial installations. He has also been involved in leading multiple other projects including in solar, residential, underground, and some industrial aspects of the electrical field. Dustin first began his journey in 2006 to work for a local Warminster commercial electrical contractor, where his first official work began at a hospital, and he was hooked from there.  Learning all the different theories and abilities really excited him and still does today.  After completing his own apprenticeship program, and becoming a foreman, Dustin began to realize how much he enjoyed helping his co-workers understand what they were doing and why.  He spent the next sixteen years running jobs throughout multiple fields, soaking up as much information as he could, across the electrical trade.  Most recently, in late 2025, Dustin was given the opportunity to teach a class on what he had been teaching on site for years and loved it.  He is extremely happy and proud to be a part of this university and looks forward to meeting all of you and being your instructor in the future.  In his free time, Dustin is often fishing on his kayak or anywhere he can put his feet in the water, going on vacations with his amazing wife Racheal (not a spelling error), enjoying time with his family, and always supporting the local Philly sports. GO BIRDS.

Ben Van Camp
